Maggie Briscoe was not at the top of her class at the Academy. She knew she would never get assigned to a star ship as a command officer or science officer. But she was a hard worker and hoped her chances would be better as a security officer. That's how she ended up on Excelsior. She would have stayed in security if Rosita Gonzoles had not decided to take an interest in her career.

Well, this is one of the shorter stories.   Time-wise:

Sulu has been Captain of Excelsior for years now.   Chekov has been First Officer for quite awhile as well.

Lt. Commander Gonzoles is Excelsior's 2nd officer and Lt. Commander Smith has been on board as 3rd officer for a short time.   Smith is still trying to fit into the crew. He has found friends in Dr. Patrick and Lt. Commander Yazdani.
