So what do you need to know before starting this story? Time wise - Sulu has been captain of the Excelsior for some time now and Chekov is his first officer. Lt. Commander Gonzoles is moving up to second officer. And the Federation is starting to worry about the Cardassians.

As far as their families are concerned - The Sulus have 3 children, the youngest - Brian - is now 7. The Chekovs also have 3 children. Peter, who is 9 and the twins, who are 6.
